Losses of the Heart

There are losses of the heart that no one sees.
They see the tears but know not why my heart is grieved.
It mourns for you, it weeps for love, it cries for me.
It considers what we had and muses over what should be.

The hurt’s so deep I can’t express my heartfelt needs–
If I try to lean on words they pierce my soul like reeds.
Lingering long through summer’s heat and autumn’s breeze,
Our friendship was meant to flourish like the oak tree.

But springtime rushed to winter stripping off the pretty leaves.
And how or why it happened is still a mystery to me.
All I know is how I feel and feelings offer me no ease.
There are losses of the heart that no one sees.
